2024 MASMS State Facilities Award of Excellence Information 

MASMS will be awarding a facility worker of the year award at the MASMS Conference on October 3, 2024. This is a new award this year, and will be presented each year.
This is an award to recognize an outstanding facility worker who is not in a management position. The person may be on the custodial, grounds or maintenance staff.
  • A chapter level award will awarded to one person from each of the five chapters.
  • Those five (5) will be finalists for the state level award.
This award will be selected from nominations submitted by MASMS Members.

Exemplary Work Ethic
This person is willing to assist with tasks outside of their job description to benefit the school as a whole. Other examples: Can be relied upon to return to work during emergencies. Is honest in accounting for time.
Stewardship of School Property
Takes responsibility for the entire school beyond an assigned area. Keeps tools and/or supplies in good order. Finds ways to maintain tools and equipment so they perform better or last longer.
Brings Joy!
Spreads good cheer. Uplifts co-workers and supports students. Enjoys working on a team to help improve the school.
Creative/Takes Initiative
Finds new ways to make good use of what is at hand. Examples: Generates ideas that are implemented to make things easier and maybe save the school some money. Is good at coming up with solutions to problems.
Promotes Sustainability
Finds ways to change processes to reduce waste of time or supplies. Works to create healthier environments for students and co-workers.
Mentors Others
Helps new employees adapt. Is willing to teach co-workers new skills. Passes knowledge about the school along to others.
Represents the Community
Improves the community at large by serving as a volunteer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be employed by the school district for at least 12 months.
  • Is regular, full time staff (not temporary or part time).
  • This person is not a supervisor.
  • Received an overall rating of "Meets" or "Meets and Exceeds" in last evaluation.

  • The person will be invited, with their family, to attend the MASMS Conference at no charge (hotel, mileage, etc. is covered as well as the cost of a sub to cover their position at the school when they attend the conference).
  • Receives plaque thanking them for their service at the conference.
  • Press releases school district and local news publications.
Selection Guidelines
An award sub-committee will review all nominations blind (they will not know the name of the person, the school submitted from or who submitted the nomination). Points will be assigned from 1-10 for each of the recognition criteria.  Self nominations are not in the spirit of the award and are not accepted.

Fill out the nomination form and return it to the MASMS office by August 1, 2024.

Please know that the name and school information will be removed before it is submitted to the selection committee.
